INDICATING THE PATTERN OF AN EXCLAMATORY SENTENCE

In indicating the pattern of an exclamatory sentence, we shall do the following things:

(a) place at the end of the pattern an exclamation point enclosed in brackets and

(b) indicate below the function of an exclamatory word its exact nature-

I.e., exclamatory adjective or exclamatory adverb.


Directions: Copy the examples on your own paper, then write original sentences following the same patterns.

Examples:

He has a gun!

Pattern: Subject- Verb- Object[!]



What wonderful pies your mother makes!

Pattern: MODIFIER MODIFIER- Object - MODIFIER- Subject- Verb[!]

Exclamatory adjective



How beautiful she is!

Pattern: MODIFIER -AdjectiveComplement- Subject- Linking Verb[!]

Exclamatory adverb
